How do you get from Barcelona Airport to El Born? The simplest option for most visitors is the Aerobús to Plaça de Catalunya, then a short walk or two metro stops to El Born. There are also the L9 Sud metro line, the Rodalies R2 Nord train from Terminal 2, and taxis. Which one suits you depends on your terminal, your luggage and the time of day.
Option 1: Aerobús to Plaça de Catalunya
The Aerobús is an express bus that runs from both terminals, T1 and T2, to the city centre, with its final stop at Plaça de Catalunya. It runs frequently throughout the day and the journey usually takes around 35 minutes, although traffic can make it longer.
From Plaça de Catalunya you have two ways to reach El Born:
- On foot: head down towards Via Laietana and into Sant Pere and Santa Caterina. It takes around 15 minutes.
- By metro: from Urquinaona, a few minutes from the square, take line L4 to Jaume I, the stop closest to the heart of El Born.
We explain the square and the walk in more detail in our page on the cannabis club near Plaça de Catalunya.
Option 2: Metro L9 Sud
Line L9 Sud connects both terminals with the city’s metro network. Bear in mind two things: the airport stations require a specific airport ticket, as standard travel cards are not valid for them, and the line does not go directly to the old town. To reach El Born you will need to change, for example to line L1 at Torrassa towards Urquinaona or Arc de Triomf. It is a reliable option, but usually slower than the Aerobús for getting to the centre.
Option 3: Rodalies R2 Nord train
The Rodalies R2 Nord line stops at the airport station next to Terminal 2 and goes into the city via Sants and Passeig de Gràcia. From Passeig de Gràcia you can take line L4 to Jaume I. If you land at Terminal 1, you will first need the free shuttle bus between terminals to reach the train, so for T1 the Aerobús is usually more convenient.
Option 4: Taxi
Official taxis wait at the ranks outside both terminals. The journey to the centre usually takes 25 to 35 minutes depending on traffic. El Born’s streets are narrow and some are restricted to traffic, so the driver may drop you on Via Laietana or near Santa Caterina market, a few minutes’ walk from Carrer de Freixures. Use only the official ranks, not people offering rides inside the terminal.
Before you travel: check the official sources
Timetables, fares, routes and even the station serving each terminal can change. Before you travel, check the official websites of TMB (metro and buses), Aerobús, Renfe (Rodalies) and Aena (the airport) for up-to-date information. If you are thinking of visiting the association
Kush Weed Coffeeshop is not a venue open to the public. It is a private association for adults, and access requires a prior membership application with identity and age verification. Many visitors ask whether they can go straight from the airport: our article on requesting membership on the day you arrive in Barcelona explains what to expect, and the one on how far in advance to request membership explains how to plan ahead.
Once you have left your bags, El Born is a good place to start exploring the city. Our guide to an afternoon in El Born around Carrer de Freixures suggests a walking route. And if someone approaches you on arrival offering to “get you into” a club, read our article on street sellers and fake club promoters in Barcelona first.
